This is a very “hairy” caterpillar, but I have no idea what species it is. Maybe it transforms into a beautiful butterfly, but when I took this photo, it certainly didn’t look that pretty. Seen this creature before? I saw many caterpillars, some with very vibrant colours, but none of them were this hairy.
Anyway, another entry for the Macro Monday challenge. Sorry for the quality though…

Could also become a moth, great Macro Capture!
Thank you! Probably a moth, Kim was most likely right ?.
Gorgeous photo! I voted that it’s not scary, but maybe my opinion will change if I see it in person, haha.
Nice! To me it was a little scary, but I still think it was an interesting caterpillar ?.
Interesting do you know what it is?
No, but Kim thinks it’s a moth, a smeared dagger one, and I believe she’s right ?.
Caterpillars usually look scary, but this macro photo makes it look kind of cute! ?
Hehe, all that hair makes it a little scary though ?.
He was just sitting there. I left him be, one photo was enough.
if that’s a caterpillar then it will either turn into a moth or a butterfly, count on it…
As Kim said, it’s probably a moth. I was just amazed by all that hair ?.
bigtime whiskers on that badboy
Exactly! Dunno why he needs them, but that’s an interesting creature.
perhaps they make it hard to swallow?
For the first time, I see such a caterpillar
Me too, that’s why I wanted to take a photo. I usually don’t take pictures of caterpillars.
Kim usually knows what she is talking about, she is probably right! Cool find.
Yeah, I think so too, she definitely has knowledge in many areas ?. Thank you!
😉 I know my bugs. lol. Thanks Carol, but I actually just took a photo of one on my last hike, and had to look it up.
I took one in my roses a few days ago. 🙂 It was a moth.
I was thinking either moth or butterfly …
either way … it’s kinda … makes me wanna run :p
Way too hairy, right? Most likely it’s a moth, I think Kim is right ?.
Yes, way tooooo hairy!!!
Kim and Carol always have the best answers when it comes to anything about plants and insects… 🙂
Yup, I trust them too ?. I like it when I learn new things from people.
The caterpillar is definitely a fan of Rod Stewart or Joan Jett…
Now that’s an image I didn’t think about ?. I’ll never watch Rod Stewart with the same eyes again.
Maybe he no longer uses something that makes his eyes look like that, or he has wrinkled too much so that such condition can’t be seen anymore.
??? maybe I should watch only some of his older videos.
I think it will transform into a moth. This one looks like a Acronicta Oblinita or a Smeared Dagger Moth Caterpillar. I could be wrong though. Are there Willow Trees in the area?
Yes, there are! Quite a lot actually ?. I’m not familiar with the latin names for species, but I think you are right. It’s probably a moth.
Well then if there are willows in the area, then it is a smeared dagger moth one. I just took a picture of one a few days ago in my area. I will post it later. 🙂
I don’t know much about them, caterpillars and moths ?.
Well maybe it will be a butterfly but sometimes I think they are moths. I am really clueless lol.
So am I, but I guess I’ll never know what this one transformed into.
