Let’s talk about Eeyore

I understand that many believe there is no reason to ever talk about a character in a children’s book and I totally disagree. Eeyore isn’t just a hero, he’s an example of love, tolerance, hope and the will to never give up. Eeyore is a realist.

For a time Eeyore was removed from the more modern Winnie the Pooh episodes. Many of us wrote letters to help them understand that Eeyore is an important part of the 100 acre woods. The book and show is not just about entertainment. There are lessons to be learned.

I would like you to see Eeyore through my eyes. He is grateful. When someone recognizes him he says “Thanks for noticing.” I don’t find his voice depressing, it is slow and thoughtful.

He recognizes limitations and deals with it. It’s not much of a tail, but I’m sort of attached to it.”

When he is given a delightful red balloon. He accepts it with Eeyore grace. “Sure is a cheerful color. Guess I’ll have to get used to it.”

“It never hurts to keep looking for sunshine.”

Eeyore sees life just as it is and adjusts. So the next time you meet and eeyore like person, remember they are an important and needed part of the community.

  1. I’m glad Eeyore is back. Part of the beauty of the Winnie The Pooh series is that Eeyore is included and valued despite his chronic depression. It’s a valuable lesson of acceptance for so many families that deal with mental health issues.

  2. It really pays to notice people, and appreciate what they do. I think thats important to be interested in people. Eeyore is to me a character that many ignore, but I like this character very much
