Today a drone view of Bangkok Thailand!

When I was little we moved from Chicago Illinois to Bloomington Indiana. I remember the new world of Southern Indiana with great clarity. It wasn’t the same as Chicago. We were further away from my grandparents. But Bloomington became home.
Then, my dad got a chance to teach overseas. Originally the potential job was in Saigon, South Vietnam. My parents felt like that would be too dangerous (and likely we, mom and us) wouldn’t live in Saigon. We would be in Singapore and dad would visit us once a month.
Instead, they opted for Thailand. I cannot say how much being in Thailand changed my world view. There is much in this world we do not understand.

My life has been steady, in one place. Both mom and dad worked in the same place , dad had to move away a couple of times due to his job but we stayed with mom, dad visited us every weekend no matter how far away he lived. Thankfully they were short stints. I have not really had to change schools either, only at the university level did I have to move out of home.
it is funny ultimately when you think about it. some people (me) move a lot! others do not!
Every time you mention Bangkok I remember one of my favorite movies Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason where she winds up in a Bangkok jail.
i remember that movie! (my wife loves that series).
I never moved. I live in the house where I was born.
that is something you do not hear very often anymore.
I agree. But it is not customary in our country to migrate much. We have brick houses that are eternal. 😃
in the US there is an inheritance tax that forces many to sell those family homes.
We also have this tax in our country. It is certainly smaller than yours.
in the US it has changed recently, to nearly zero, but it was at least 50% for many years.
We moved a few times with my Dad’s job. I remember living in Jackson, MS for about two years.
i have been there – there is a huge data center there!
This was around the 70s.
i think the Jackson site was built in the 1990s
Always interested to read your Thailand stories!
thanks – my memories of Thailand are very important to me!
