the last of the light escaping and
racing around the room to alight
as if a butterfly. Bouncing off the walls to shatter
windows
and explode into
the colors of the spectrum
and
like a baby
with too much gas
and not enough milk
spraying outward. To stain
the last checkerboard
covering the pieces
except for the queen
as the chess match ends.
The last ray of light
now purple
fades to black
as the curtains close.

Very visual poem. Memories pop into our head daily…sometimes things that happened decades ago.
they do – they are like earworms sometimes. The song from the Lion King has been my earworm since yesterday (Hakuna mata)
Great song, my friend … memories are the only thing that remains forever … good to remember only the good ones … the bad ones if I just forget
Some of the bad ones are wrapped around the good ones for me.
This happens to me sometimes too, but I just don’t give it up
i try to do that often, but sometimes I just cannot
I totally understand you, my friend
Interesting but the battle is not over… Hope reigns eternal
The battle rages on forever! I won’t give up!
Wonderful song. Memories can really be “tiring”, too.. I have unfortunately a little happy memories.
Knowing what you’ve shared, I am sorry. The bad memories like to visit us too often!
I agree. The more we chase them away, we cannot get rid of them.
My grandfather always used to say “in every drop of rain there is joy and sorrow. Joy, blooms later from the rain. But the sorrow never quite washes away.”
Good job Doc. Made think of Metallica…
Things not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
wow, haven’t thought of that song in a long time.
Beautiful poem , Yes memories do that some time.
Thanks Memories can be tricky!
Not a day goes by without my memories.
I truly agree, memories often flow like a river.
