These are the cows that used to be my neighbors. So sad, the dairy farm is being replaced with houses, and more houses.
About a mile down the road here are my old neighbors! Well actually it is a different dairy farm and cows but they look the same. Holstein cows are my favorite. The black and white cows, as we always call them, are so cool. They make good neighbors as well. But they are gone. I miss them. But I can visit others right down the road.
This time of the year you can see a lot of babies. Very cool to see them find their legs, they wobble around then before you know it, they are walking. Amazing.
And the buffalo are still my neighbors. But they are behind houses now. They do not have as much room to roam as the once did. Life changes. We have to roll with it.

Nice photo and blog. Yes, I have had a few changes lately, not for the better for the most part. But you just have to go with the flow, don’t you?
Change is always good. Beautiful picture
Sadly there is too much of urbanization happening everywhere. Your early neighbors gave such a nice countryside feel.
Yes you are correct. Thank you.
It really is sad … then they are surprised that the bears are going to their yards … who has reduced the living space for someone
Exactly, they should know why this is happening, their homes are being taken away.
I totally agree with you … we got into their living space
Yes sometimes it is, thanks!
Rolling with the punches! I am sorry you buffalo and bovine neighbors are further away. The impact of houses everywhere is hard to deal with sometimes.
Into every life, a little rain must fall. But those of us good at gardening turn that rain into beautiful flowers!
At least I can still walk to see the buffalo. I have been through worse, just a little frustration. This too shall pass. Thanks Doc.
I know, living in Maryland that the reality of suburbia sometimes takes over. Maryland actually passed a law in the 1990’s called the greenway law.
It basically made it illegal to build housing areas too close together. There has to, by law be green between!
They are trying to slow down the building in Nashville but it is not working.
Yes, changes are hard, especially when farm land is taken up with housing
Yes any change in life are hard but things have been a lot worse, so this will get better in time. Just adapting is all it will take.
Changes are hard like having to move from a city to another city due to a natural disaster like Hurricane Katrina did force a lot of people to leave the Greater New Orleans region for other cities in Louisiana and other states.
You are so right, I have moved many times and that is another obstacle that takes time to get through. I remember Katrina, so many were misplaced and lost everything. I am not complaining as i know many have it so much worse, just venting.
I know what you mean since leaving Metairie for Lake Charles was a hard decision for me. However in the long run it was a good decision to find a change in scenery.
I am sure Metairie has changed since I was there. Lake Charles as well.
Both towns have changed a lot after the natural disasters.
So many changes and it seems like they come in waves. I hope the calm returns soon.
Yes you are right, that is how life is, thank you.
I grew up seeing cows grazing just across from my house so it is always a pleasant memory and a welcome sight when I come across them.
I grew up naming cows of my Grandparents, so it is like second nature to have them around but I have those memories forever.
Every development needs some sacrifices. We are one of the developing countries and I saw the changes every day. Just like Lado said, trees were being cut down along highways for the road widening.
You are right. This is just life, needed to vent a little. Thanks.
Similar things are happening in our country too. I’m particularly sad when I see how the forest is “destroying”.
Seeing the forests destroyed breaks my heart.
We have farms in non-residential areas … so yeah we hardly have such neighbours …
I just love animals and miss seeing these cows behind my house.
The same thing is happening with us … cutting down forests and destroying fertile soil … whether it’s about houses or for the road
Oh that is so sad to hear. It is a tragedy but nothing we can do about it. And in some cases these forests are wild animals’ homes as well. Just too sad.
