Ford vs. Ferrari is a sports biopic about the great mid-60s standoff staged by James Mangold, one of the most underrated directors of our time. James Mangold, in spite of the many controversial projects in his filmography, always knew how to make beautiful, verified films, including those in the genre of biography films.
Based on an interesting, but at the same time unknown story to the general public, J. Mangold, for two and a half hours of screen time, shows his talent fully in everything, starting from the most beautiful filming of races to savoring the aesthetics of the 60s with stylish suits and luxurious cars.
And all this looks with a sense of competently growing intrigue, despite the realities of the genre. A good story choice, proving that a biopic can keep the viewer in suspense until the final credits. Needless to say with such films, it happens extremely rare?
However, despite the style and excellent shooting, the actors in the lead roles in the film rule the ball. The acting duet Matt Damon–Christian Bale turned out to be a successful combination, where no one pulls a blanket over himself. The characters complement each other, and the chemistry between the actors only “throws firewood” into the fire of the viewer’s faith in the friendship between the characters.
Yes, at times Carroll (Damon) behaves like a pig in relation to Ken (Bale), but this is the essence of friendship – in the ability to forgive and move on to a common goal.
Total. James Mangold told the story to remind viewers of the great adventurers of the past, whose age was short, but no doubt bright. This is an ideal example of a sports film, where genre affiliation makes itself felt only in the last ten minutes when genre cliches are destroyed by facts from harsh reality.

It’s ironic that Damon acted as the one that was a jerk instead of Bale.
I don’t think this is my kind of movie but I will check out more information on it. I do know that my late husband got me into watching the Formula One races in Europe and they turned out to be very exciting.
I like many varieties of movies. Comedies as well.
