Finishing up my top 5 tech lists with the first 2 runners up!!!!

My offer to read and share old posts remains open. This is not limited to any site, share with me links from anything you are proud of, happy to read and share!

Some technologies that didn’t make my top list but are ones I think will have an impact are today’s focus. The first one is the new Google Translate app, versus the already existing Travis, the translator, and the juggling reality of your phone versus a stand-alone device. I am not deriding, nor am I belittling android devices, but there is something people don’t realize as they wander around with their android phone. Not all android phones are the same. I know that Apple has gained a reputation as being expensive. But I can tell you that other than an iPhone 5 versus an iPhone 12 as far as processor, everything else about the iPhone is pretty much the same.

Not true for android phones. The various components of the phone, including Microphones, speakers, and accelerometers, can be different. In every single Android point. All Samsungs are the same, but Samsung today is only about 40% of the android phone market. Every other android phone is using different parts. Now you are saying, why do I care? The value proposition of a translation system can use it in real-time. That is why Google released its translate application. But if the microphone your device has isn’t a good one, you will have bad calls, and worse, it won’t be easy to use your phone as a translation device. The advantage goes to the hi-gain Microphone in Travis and other stand-alone translation hardware.

The other technology that didn’t make my top five list but is one I think is bound to take off this year is 360/3d cameras. A 3d camera has been on the market for five or more years. A 3d camera isn’t a 360-degree camera. But a 360-degree camera can use software to be both. These cameras continue to get smaller and more useable. They do not have traditional camera bodies, so they are closer to the cellphone in use. Or they are attached to your cell phone to use. But overall, these systems offer some very interesting capabilities for the photographer. Facebook supports sharing 360-degree images now. The declining camera market limits this particular technology. But I do think that this will continue to have a minor growth!

  2. I will try and set a day aside to go through all my Virily posts and see what I posted at the very beginning and then from them I will make a post letting people know what I think of my old posts and what I like myself and perhaps even what I no longer like. That, however, will take a whole day

    • i have a friend that builds an application for the Android phone only. He regrets that decision, every single brand of Android, uses a completely different accelerometer. That means you cannot use motion the same in your application and have to test a lot more.

It increases the cost of building apps.
