Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus).
The birds with the largest beak are the pelicans.
They are also one of the largest flying birds on Earth.
The bones of the huge beak, as well as the entire skeleton, have numerous cavities filled with air.
This makes them lightweight without reducing their strength.
Under their lower jaws, the pelicans have a huge leather bag that holds fish caught.

great shot pal!!!
We see these during the mid-summer months near the harbors (Chesapeake Bay area) Pelicans tend to stay further south most of the year in the US. so we only get to see them for a couple of months.
Yes, they love the warm climate and lots of food 😉
They do love catching fish! seagulls we have year round!
waw beautiful pic i also like it.
thanks for sharing.
I’m glad you liked the photo!
Yes pelican are certainly beautiful birds. I know them only from documentaries. I do not think we have them here in Canada unless there are some on the eastern or western coast. It is too bad that their bills often get caught on trash along the water and can easily get torn with rusted materials. We should be more careful around them and other animals…
Definitely spreading their waste all over the planet and threatens all life with them!
Wow! Beautiful picture and Captured amazingly.
Thanks! Pelicans are one of my favorite birds.
Love this bird but rarely get to see it. Nice photo!
In Bulgaria they nest in the Srebarna Reserve, but in spring and autumn they cross Via Pontica on their way to the Danube Delta.
These places are further away from my home and for that reason I go to Greece more often to shoot them.
It is a beautiful bird, we have some in one region of our country.
Many of them do not breed in Bulgaria, but there are some in Greece and Romania.
Who was it who wrote:
“A marvellous bird is the pelican
His bill can hold more than his belly can
He can keep in his beak
Enough food for a week
Though I’m dashed if I know how the hell he can”
In the beginning of winter I was on Lake Kerkini in Greece and they were literally landing on the boat just to feed them 😀
It is a bird that lives in the Danube Delta. Unfortunately I didn’t go there yet to see it in the natural environment. It’s a beautiful bird.
Yes, a year ago I went to the Danube Delta and saw them a little before they flew south.
But I was shooting this bird recently in Greece 😉
