I have been writing about my backyard Bluebirds of Happiness. My last update in case you missed it is here Surprise Catch. Today is actually day 18. The bluebirds fledge between day 16-18. I have been pacing like an expectant mother the last few days. Yes I get deep into this experience. The key when you are waiting for them to fledge is to watch the parents. I have a lot of trees in my yard and if I am lucky, they will fly into one and stay for a little while. They will eventually leave but for now I love seeing them fly right out of the box. Amazing how they know how to fly isn’t it! Of course I missed the first two.
There are three still in the box right now. I slowly went out to check the tree the female had been circling. And there it was. A beautiful little baby bird. I was getting dive bombed by both parents, (literally), so I took a couple of photos and came back inside. I took a risk even being in the backyard. They get protective during this time. As they should. So this photo was a challenge to get. It could be tomorrow before the other two fledge, it happens when they get ready. But there is one with his head out of the door so maybe they will all fledge today. Yes I am a little excited. This is the day I have been waiting on. If they can fly straight from the box to a tree, they are usually healthy. So far so good.
My Bluebirds of Happiness born in Dustin’s memorial garden. I am so blessed.

Thank you for your interest. I am waiting on the bluebirds to decide if they are going to have a second nest. Time will tell.
Okay I will look forward to seeing them.
I posted yesterday about a new nest, did you see it? https://virily.com/science-nature/bluebird-blog-2018-2-nest-building/
See I did see the image of the bluebirds. It was nice.
Thank you. And no worries, it is hard to keep up with all the posts. 🙂
I have enjoyed the bluebird blog of yours and yes please post more like it. it is amazing!
It is all up to the bluebirds, if they decide on a second nest or not. Thanks!
The beginning of life, the journey and the eventual change is delightful Carol! Thank you for sharing these!!!!!
Indeed Doc, indeed! I see them in the trees in my yard. Seeing it in person is priceless. Thank you for being excited for me as well. 🙂
It comes from the sharing – Dustin’s Garden, the bluebirds, all these things are the parts of our community!
Exactly and they all bring such joy.
Good story , I like it
Thanks, I always look forward to these bluebirds each year.
I have never seen bluebirds, so these posts are very interesting to me! Gorgeous capture as well!
There is nothing like the experience Ellie. It is hard to put into words the happiness and joy they bring. Thank you for your support.
This is one of the most fun blogs for me. Give me another magical story of them, Carol.
Thank you Albert. If they start a new nest I most definitely will. 🙂
Their presence always makes me cheerful!
As they do mine. I am watching them feed the babies form my window. I will write one last update tomorrow. It has been a long day!
Hmm it’s fun to know about how birds grow up…
I’ve raised a baby bird before (abandoned or probably the nest is destroyed by storm) and it’s a good experience… the baby we raised didn’t dare to fly far though …
Everybody this is interested should get the chance to experience it, words cannot describe. That is my opinion with these bluebirds, as you know.
Yes, I think I know… lol
it’s a magical experience for my family
So good to know you all feel the magic as well. 🙂
Our first batch of Robins has fledged, at least from one nest. They will likely have another clutch later on.
That is cool Rex. I see baby robins in my yard but I didn’t see the nest or see them fledge. Such a cool time of the year.
I followed you blog about babies, I liked it
Thank you very much for supporting me Branka.
Carol, it is so wonderful to see you getting all worked up over your beautiful 2-winged babies. I voted more bluebird posts! 2nd nests, by all means. Keep ’em coming!
Thank you Ann. This experience always brings joy year after year. I hope they start a new nest.
I should have said it may be tomorrow before the other three fledge, three more to go. 🙂
