In the article; Americas Normal State is War I covered the various battles America has been involved in since 1776.
From 1798 until 1815 there was war with the Moors. hey are referred to as the ‘Barbary’ wars to signify the ‘Barbary Coast.
The Barbary Coast is a term used by Europeans from about the 16th to the 19th century which refers to the ‘Berber’ people.
Although not every one who lived in North Africa; that is Morocco, Algeria, Libya Tunisia are Berbers. It is the kind of off hand ignorance where people from Africa are referred to as ‘Moors’ as it is assumed they come from Morocco.
To be precise, the Moors were Africans. Africans from various parts of Africa. In literature they are called ‘corsairs’ in some reports, ‘Pirates’ in others and generically, Moors.
They were extremely powerful.
Most Americans don’t know this. They don’t know that in the centuries from the 16th to 19th they were to the Mediterranean sea, and much of the eastern Atlantic, what Genghis Khan was to Asia. Their power was enormous and people were terrified of them.
In Self Oppressed Two, I reflected on an American Actor who considered the term ‘Moor’ equivalent to that of ‘Negro’. He does not know history. He does not even know that he does not know.
This is the scary part; to not realize there are things you don’t know, and to accept the current ‘narrative’ as true. Not to spend a second pondering, (as he a ‘Shakespearean Actor should) why would such a person as Othello be considered so dangerous and powerful?
In those days, when it was real, when it wasn’t history but current events, the Moors produced fear and they were extremely effective.
Any ship in the Mediterranean Sea had to pay tribute to one of their kingdoms. If the ship didn’t or their country of origin did not have some kind of payment schedule with the Moors, they would attack the ship, take the goods, enslave the crew.
They were very successful.
To get back the crew required ransom be paid. In most cases, it wasn’t, which led to a lot of European slaves in North Africa.
Thomas Jefferson, the Third President of the United States, decided that America would not pay tribute and sent a Naval fleet to the Mediterranean. This fleet bombarded various fortified pirate cities in Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria.
This war was not a victory for America.
It was truncated by the War of 1812, and resumed shortly after. This War, known in America, (if one can find it for it is left out of most history books) was called the Tripolitan War.
It has been obliterated in the most part, save for that sentence in the Marine Corps Hymn; “to the shores of Tripoli.”
When you want to check a reality find out whose pocket. Once you note that X will lose money if… then you know the decision wasn’t based on ‘human rights’ or ‘insurgents’ but on money.
America only entered countries where there was profit to be made…
Afghanistan? Opium.
Very good article, well researched and presented. Anything historical is my kind of reading.
I love history myself. I tend to follow the paths, not the highway, and pick up on little anomalies

The dark side of self-esteem, just the great thing that needs to be sung, the rest is hidden in public boast.
The problem is not knowing what you don’t know is that when someone tries to shine a little light into the darkeness, they shut the blinds.
Exactly! That’s how to play an ego in any form, individual, community, nation, fanaticism, motivator/meaning of life speaker, or even a religious leader.
I love history!
Always good to take the time and remeniss for our ancestors.. And share To our current generation. Content in one space.. #Boom! Awesomesauce..
Thank you. The interesting thing is that the facts are there. It isn’t that hidden, it is just left in the background, skipped over and no one asks.
Pretty informative stuff, thanks for letting us all know about this culture.
You are very welcome… the fact is as time passes, history is changed. Things are left out. I’m sure in a few decades they won’t even mention Vietnam or the incursion into Afghanistan.
nice post article informative history well done

Thank you so much for your comment. I appreciate it.
Revisionist history is nothing new, I know for a fact the Egyptians practiced it…
But it is not history… when one can find the truth one should.
Can we even know the truth? By the time we know which events are worth remembering, we’ve already forgot the details. Even when a government is not trying to spin something, many people will have conflicting reports on what actually happened…
YOu follow the money. I learned about the Moors not from history books but from the fact that Lloyd’s of London made payouts in one 7 year period for almost 500 ships. Now you know, if you’ve ever dealt with an Insurance Company, how they hate to pay, so it must have been many more ships than that 500 which were captured by the Moors. Now that’s a lot. So they had to be very strong.
When Mauritania freed the slaves … Again… in 2000 most were blonde.
Follow the money? Good answer…
This was fascinating Jaguar! …Up till now I thought the USA had never lost a war before the Vietnam conflict.
It lost a number of wars; and persisted in a number of engagements until such time as the loss was obliterated.
Thank you very much for reading my post
