Ratoon for "Usethisword" Challenge

I chose Ratoon for the #usethisword Challenge made by Ghostwriter. She gave us a list of words to choose from and I liked this one. Here is that list of words link.

I also noticed that RasmaSandra also picked this word. You can find her post here, where she explains what ratoon means and the processes of ratooning.

I thought I would surely have a new shoot of something I could use from my garden pictures.

I had to look up the word Ratoon. I noticed one article about ratooning pineapple so they grow new pineapples for next year. This made me super happy as I realized that my accident in weeding and pruning was a good accident. You will see below what I mean.

#2 This is what happened.

Two years ago I took the top off of a Sugarloaf Pineapple that we get from Mexico and planted it. This is it, the bigger plant. It has never given me pineapples but had a baby, you can see it on the left.

#3 I knew it could take two years.

For the adult plant to produce fruit. I then forgot about it. I had this ground cover that took over, and buried my little plant. One morning I was pruning the ground cover and accidentally chopped off the pineapple plant at the base. I thought I had killed it, until the other day while watering I noticed it came back and had some babies.

A few days later Ghost came up with this challenge and I noticed the word I used for the cover. Ratoon. I had to look it up and that is when I realized I might have helped my little plant instead of killing it. This year it should produce fruit, I will keep you updated.

    • Thank you Pamela, you could do one in a pot. They do well in pots. I just watched something about NZ last night. The genetically modified rats that they want to release on the island. They say by 2050 no rats will remain. Hopefully it’ll go through and the birds will be saved.

    • Thank you, and me too! Hopefully I it’ll get a bloom or two. You are welcome, I just had to mention your post as well. I hope a few clicked on it from here. Now, where is that line of cartoon quizzes? Anxiously awaiting…
