My daughter surprised me by taking my wife and I (and her girlfriend) to Pottercon for my 50th Birthday. She provided Harry Potter t-shirts for us all and kept the surprise right until we got to the theater where it was being hosted.
Pottercon is a conference for Harry Potter fans – however, to attend you must be 21+.
It is packed with people in Harry Potter costumes, has cool games like Beer Quiddich (Beer Pong), sorting, potion making etc. and there’s even a giant ‘wizards’ chess set to play with.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day and perhaps had a few too many Butter Beers (they were basically vodka based butterscotch cocktails.)

I am a pretty decent chess player having played for Wales in school. I played Krista first and beat her. A random guy then challenged me to a game. He was actually a pretty decent player and we soon became very serious.
Sadly - perhaps due to a few too many butterbeers, he gained a slight advantage - perhaps a pawn or two - and I eventually resigned as I really didn't want to get into a very long and drawn out end game (there were a lot of people waiting to play). He was a good player so he would have won.....
