Some people get so into their craft or talent so much they in turn become a part of what they are making.
I was inspired to create this piece by an old elementary school friend, Tracy Williams. Tracy is a tremendous craftsman in the First Nation community here in British Columbia. Her craft of weaving hats and other clothing out of cedar bark has sparked a project of my own.
I set out to create the illusion of weaving while only using one solid block of black walnut while at the same time adding a little mystical illusion and the notion of becoming your passion.
It was quite a long and eye bending process having to carve each individual weave while trying to keep the integrity of the face.

Hope you like it!
This is truly amazing work of art! Respect 🙂
Totally amazing – not only did you carve the face but also added the texture of weaving….
Wow, that’s amazing! It really looks as if the wood is a flexible fabric.
