Sharing a photo with Alibb’s Alphabet Cray challenge. I captured these cicada on my sycamore tree. One is only a shell but the other is alive.
Some trivia to share with you if are not familiar with these loud insects.
Cicadas go through three stages of development: egg, nymph and adult. The egg is laid in tree branches and when they hatch they fall to the ground. In the larval stage they are called a nymph and can live in the ground for many years.
Some nests of cicada larvae live in the ground for 17 years! Then they emerge from the ground and attach to trees, plants, or structures until they sort of pop out of their skin and become an adult.
As an adult, they only live from 2 weeks to 40 days. Now you know the rest of the story.

I’ve no idea about them…
Haven’t seen one …
Anyway if I did, I’d be running around LOL
You are lucky not to know these loud annoying insects!
Interesting insect. I’m not sure I saw it.
They are so annoying my friend with their noise.
Bring it on Chica! I got this. lol Love the photo of the shell and live one. So cool. Screeech we wee wee.
I was surprised about the photo, thought there were two at first. 🙂
During my mom’s wake, there were cicadas inside their house. My brother said it was because of the lights.
That makes sense as they are attracted to the lights.

(I caught the Paul Harvey rest of the story reference).
The three stages are fun, noted for a potential future quiz!
Funny man today. I see your humor is shining through. Thanks for the misers Doc. 🙂
That is a lot of info on this insect. Did not know alphabet C challenge is on.
I felt like explaining about the insect in case others were not aware. Turns out that was the case.
Alibb said we are on our own with the alphabet order.
I didn’t realize I had two in the photo until after I uploaded it.
Thanks for sharing interesting info. I don’t know this insect.
You are welcome and be glad you do not know this one!
They are so loud even inside the house sometimes.
I do not know these animals … but you presented them with a great … great picture
Be glad you do not know these very noisy insects. Thank you!
Have a good evening my friend.
Cicadas are a wonder of nature to me. I’ve always wondered how they can come up exactly in the 17th year. There are also 13-year cicadas. Great pic.
Yes but when you have several the noise can be deafening. But it is an interesting story. And yes, there are the 13 years cicadas as well.
Nature is so amazing to learn about. Think about, 13 or 17 years, then they emerge. Wow!
hum, now that I didn’ know.
Nature is so cool, we really do learn something new every day!
