Fruit Pests _ the Guava Moth

1. That’s sad. We do not know this pest, but we have other pests who eat the fruit.

   • Thanks Vidocka, I suppose pests who eat fruit are world wide. We only need to learn how to deal with them.

2. This is the first time I have heard about Guava Moth, I know Guava but have never known about that kind of moth. What is put on the green stuff?

   • Thanks Albert, Guava Moth looks like an ordinary Moth but the female lays eggs on fruit like peaches, guavas, feijoas, citrus fruit and plums and the caterpillars eat the fruit from inside.
     The photo of a small hut contains a sticky paper and a male attraction rubber part. The males die so they cant fertilise the female moth.
     I hate killing anything but we need to eat our fruit.

     • I see… I know the type of moth like that, even maybe the name and shape are different.

       Aha! So it is a type of adhesive for insects, like those that are also made for flies or mice in my place, even without such small buildings.

3. First, with a name like a guava moth, it has to eat something fruity. I love the picture of the trap, its looks like a restaurant or a hotel!!!

   • Yes, I suppose it does, I think it will catch a few.

     • There was a hotel change in the US many years ago called Howard Johnsons, it was famous for a green roof like your moth house!

6. When dealing with nature there are always predators to deal with. Looks like you have it figured out.

   • The Guava Moth comes from Australia, and are a real threat to NZ fruit. Thanks Carol
