Hummingbirds visit my deck feeders each year between May and September. Depending on the weather, it may be earlier or later. But they always show up. I hang the feeders in the same place each year. These tiny birds will fit in the palm of your hand. They are the smallest of birds and are about 3-5″ long.
They are known as hummingbirds because of the humming sound created by their beating wing which flap at high frequencies audible to humans. They hover in mid-air at rapid wing-flapping rates, typically around 50 times per second. Amazing!
