My garden is doing very well this year. This is just part of my crop – potatoes.
Potatoes have been known in the Peruvian area for 2500 years before our counting. However, when potatoes were brought to America from America in the 16th century, they did not yet know exactly what to do with them. At first, it was considered an ornamental plant. It took 200 years for this food to spread among humans. In 1767, Maria Theresa issued an order to plant potatoes. The low price of potatoes and the reduction of famine in Europe due to potatoes are probably the two main reasons why this tuberous food has become increasingly important.

Those are very nice potatoes you grew! In Ireland, we are famous for loving potatoes. In fact, in America, potatoes are often called ‘Irish potatoes’ to distinguish them from sweet potatoes (an completely different plant). That is ironic, since potatoes originally came from North America to Ireland 😀

my dad used to grow potatoes, they were incredible. There is something about fresh that is best.

Thank you, Norman. This year my potatoes did very well for me. I haven’t tried the sweet yet. We have not been able to buy it in our country for a long time.
I believe it is quite easy to grow. Perhaps next year I will try it. We can buy it in the shops here, and it is very tasty, and cooks more quickly than regular potatoes. Tomorrow I will be making boxty, a traditional Irish potato pancake!

similar to how the potatoes are in a Full Irish. Small, often cubed and fried in a little butter or oil.
As in “full Irish breakfast”? Some hotels may serve cubed fried potatoes as part of that, but that would not be part of the equivalent in an Irish home, which would be referred to as a “cooked breakfast”.

Great looking crop of yummy potatoes. I like them mashed, cut, fried and probably other ways that I do not know about. Here Prince Edward Island has the most of North America crop of potatoes. But yours look still scrumptious. Congratulations. Anything else growing in your garden?
Thank you. I love potatoes. Many types of vegetables grow in my garden: lettuce, beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkin, onions, peppers, carrots, parsley etc.
