Today is my wrapup day of how we can all work together to improve things.
- Social Media style blocking means that the user cannot interact with you on your posts at all. I would like to see a zero-tolerance policy, but I doubt that is going to happen.
- The return of the edit button is a return to the ability to edit posts.
- More communication would be from the admin team to us.
- Please give us the ability to report private messages to the admin team. Users that have multiple PM’s reported would lose the ability to use the PM feature.
- Same for comments, multiple rude or mean comments would result in that person have their comments removed.
- Removing WTF as an emoji and replacing it with a sad face.
- Return of a useable draft folder.
- Finally, Service Level Agreements for how long posts take to moderate.
The poll questions are focused on two of them today. The rest have all received multiple yes votes so that I will move them forward for now. I will pull together a poll for this weekend that will let you choose your top three of this list. I realize this is a long list. All of these come from suggestions made by authors in the community that has not been enacted by the admin team (other than edit and drafts which existed before).
Little things matter – how we treat other people matters as well. I want to thank everyone in advance. We did this process three times since July 2019. We have gotten more than ½ the features we’ve asked for added to the platform since the first time we’ve done this. Please make sure you add anything I am missing as far as features in the comments. Remember that this next post will be shared with the admins. The goal, as always, is to present what the community wants going forward. So if something is missing on my list, let’s add it in the comments!

Question of
An SLA on length of time to moderate posts. We live on new content – can we ask for 48 hours or should it be less?

Yes

No

Full draft/preview functionality is important because the software is so flaky. If it reliably did what it was supposed to do, this would not be so critical.
it is on the list – I am sorry I forgot it but i am reworking this and sending it to the admins tomorrow.
Q: RETURN OF FULL DRAFTS FUNCTIONALITY (WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO YOU IN THE COMMENTS)…
Yes (1 votes) – 33%
No (2 votes) – 67%
Q: AN SLA ON LENGTH OF TIME TO MODERATE POSTS. WE LIVE ON NEW CONTENT – CAN WE ASK FOR 48 HOURS OR SHOULD IT BE LESS?
Yes (3 votes) – 100%
All I can say is that I totally agree. I never place anything if drafts but to me, the edit button is important if once I post something and suddenly see I made a mistake that I could immediately correct that.
i haven’t used drafts since I’ve been on the site (I work offline and then copy-paste into the Virily window).
but I hear so many people use the drafts. If they fix it i may try it!
Drafts are the most important to me personally, but the long waiting can be frustrating so I hope they work on that too or they simply verify more users. It feels like there are very few people on the site lately.
I am going to order the list this weekend –
likely moderation agreement (48 or fewer hours)
drafts
blocking users
reporting PMs
not sure what the rest will be.
I think we really should solve the post approval issues first. I’ve experienced this and I know how members feel.
i will make that the number one issue in the final poll!
Great. I think a lot of members lose patience with this wait.
they do – it is very frustrating. we also need that new content!
I agree. I hope the admins will take our wishes into account at least a little.
they have every time we’ve done this so far. So the good news is they are listening. Slowly, but listening.
It is already a big step forward for them to start listening to us.
i wish my friend, that was not the case. It is, but I wish it wasn’t.
I really wish the admins could hear us better 😊
that is my epic failure in trying to help everyone on this site. I have sent the list of what we would like 5 times. Communication was on it 5 times and is one of the only ones we haven’t heard anything on.
I am saddened by that. But i am not quitting!
I don’t know where we would be today if we didn’t have you and your help.
there are many i rely on to keep going. You, Carol, Ghost and others keep me moving on track.
Thank you. I also have a few people (of course you are among them) who follow me regularly, so I also insist and wait for better times.
i decided honestly five days ago, I am not waiting I am going to make better days! I will call out those whose negative behavior impacts other authors.
But I will also sing to the high heavens the praise of those who do the right things for the rest of us!
I think your decision is already showing results. The site seems to me much more “friendly” and calm lately.
i think i am at best the tip of the spear. There are many pushing for a happier site, so no credit for me there!
I will say again that I am glad that at least one is doing something good for this website.
First of all, love the cover photo. 🙂
I rarely used drafts in the past but I know others did.
And yes 48 hours should be the max users have to wait to have posts approved.
i think the rate of approval is hurting us right now. So many authors have to wait too long.
It is crazy, it should take a few minutes to approve a post.
they don’t fact check
they don’t spell check
they don’t do grammar checks
they do a plagiarism check and nothing else.
No excuses…. NO EXCUSES!
i agree. i forgot it on the poll yesterday and Artbytes reminded me. it is a crucial thing going forward.
we need content!!!!
