MERCER MAYER began writing and illustrating children’s books in 1966, and since that time, he has published over 300 titles.
Open almost any of the award winning author illustrator’s books, and out may pop dragons, cuddly monsters, wonderful creatures, and endearing critters.
Dustin had a collection of these incredible Little Golden Books that I read to him for many years.
Sharing this story with today’s Saturday Critters challenge. Something a little different. I remember many little critters in these books.
Brought back wonderful memories for me. I took a stroll down memory lane while writing this.

These are children’s books that we in Europe know nothing about. They look fun.
I do not know anything about these books but to be honest, the cover you have included is really beautiful and adorable.
I don’t know these books. I don’t know if we can get them in our country.
The cover is so cute! These books are new to me.
I loved these and Dustin did as well.
what a joyous and happy memory – thank you for sharing that!
i had Mercer Mayer, Shel Silverstein and so many others (Sendak, Suess) in my classroom (I started out teaching 2nd grade)
i gave them to my kids when i left teaching. So magical!
Funny how the memory popped in my head when looking for something to post for Critter Saturday. What a nice journey I took. Magical is the word.
it really is a wonderful memory to have and share.
I used to read a lot when I was little. I have a few of the golden books myself.
Good memories Dawn, same here.
I’m not familiar with the series but I used to remember diving into children’s book whenever my mother bought them.
These were so cool and Dustin enjoyed each one he had.
Great but I have never heard of these books. They sound and look great
They were so much fun. The pics were so funny.
I was a regular book worm as a child but this series of books I do not know. I read many picture books and others including some from the series the Golden Books. Will take a look at what these books had to offer out of curiosity,
I am surprised more did not know these books, such a cool series.
