It’s weird that they are not allowed to play chess in Antarctica
In 1959, in a Soviet research station in Antarctica, the loser in a chess game killed the winner with an ice pick. After that, chess games were banned at Soviet/Russian Antarctic stations.
You got 6 out of 11…
Okay, not so bad a score 🙂 Thanks for coming along!
6/11, very curious quiz!!! Never heard about some facts, thank you so much for sharing!!!
Did you know about the chess, in the last question, Anastasia? I was amazed! 🙂
Was also very amazed about the chess, read about the facts of this ban – this is a real shock for me!!!
i got 8 right not bad.
although my fingers are cold now.
It was more than my fingers were cold after researching this I can tell you!
A scientists asks another scientist “how do we know are actually in Antarctica.?”
“have you been outside in a year?” the other replied.
I have to confess that took me a moment – very good! 😀
it is the joke a friend of mine on the NSA polar project told when he got back from his year.
Worth remembering for the rare occasions you can use it – like here ??
Also any time I go to the national science foundation and when I give talks to high school science students!
I didn’t know as much as I thought, but thanks to you, hopefully, I had the chance to fill my knowledge gaps.
Ellie good to see you here – thanks for taking the quiz 🙂
WEll well well. Seems I do know stuff about that icy place. What I didn’t know is that there are no Polar bears there. You got me with that one, and an animal one at that. Geeze. I will remember this. Great quiz once again you! Hey btw can you not load pictures into the body?
Rough about the bears – there are none in the southern hemisphere at all, I’m fairly sure. Load pictures into whose body? Do you mean, into the questions? I haven’t tried since the latest disappearance of saving as draft. Have you done it?
I had heard that at some point in the past, but had forgotten.
Yes, load pictures into the questions. It’s okay I did find my answer, it is still not possible.
I only got 4 out of 11
You got 4 out of 11 right!
Could be better
Great quiz!
I think the options in the 9th question could have all been like the second and third one. I selected “Yes” and still got it wrong.
I put 0 as an option, but it appeared as ‘Yes’. It’s fixed now.
Hmm… Great! At times, it does happen. Even if you take great care, something goes here or there. LOL!!! Happened with me initially here…
Great quiz. Don’t know too much about Antarctica but I got 6 right.
You did well enough, Rasma! Thanks for playing 🙂
Got 6. We had a simulated Antarctica experience at Christchurch, New Zealand
That sounds fun, Grace. But even more than Antarctica, I would love to visit New Zealand – you lucky girl!
Missed #8 & 9. Great quiz and a place I wold like to see one day.
You did great, Carol! It would be cool to visit Antarctica, but I can think of lots of places i would like to see first 🙂
I have such a long list, I will never get to all of them.
