What is for…Dinner – Mala HotPot

The Mala “trend” probably started in Chong Qing and Si Chuan region which is known for numbing spicy with cook in the Mala sauce.

Mala is actually made up of 2 Chinese characters which means “numb” and “hot/spicy” respectively.

The Mala hotpot is considered “exotic” in my country and is rather expensive. They have 3 levels of spicness – small, medium and large and go by weight – meat weighed separated from veggies and mushrooms … etc.

This is half eaten and the full portion which is still quite little cost about $6-7. I shared it with my mother (we both have a bowl of rice to got with it) and its not quite filling…

We had medium level of spiciness by the way. My lips went numb.
