Thriller The Wedding Guest

According to the idea, “The Wedding Guest” is an intriguing mixture of extraordinary plot decisions and a kind of neo-noir spirit.

The film is focused on the journey of a lonely bearded man named Jay. The hero is sent from England to Pakistan, and the feeling of anxiety intensifies with each new scene. For example, after arrival, he immediately buys weapons, duct tape, and other maniac equipment. Jay is not connected with terrorism. He goes to the wedding to kidnap Samira and return her to her English lover. Everything, of course, is not going according to plan, and the ins and outs of the abduction are not so simple.

The main role in this project was made by the well-known Dev Patel, and the director was Michael Winterbottom. The duet tried to provide a certain sympathy of the audience for the cold-blooded mercenary.

In general, Patel hasn’t had this type of role in his list so for such an incarnation, he definitely gets a plus. He and his colleague Radhika Apte, playing the kidnapped bride, generate certain chemistry, but the restrained scenario does not allow both of them to reveal themselves.

Everything ends on a strong note, although not as digestible as the beginning. The problem is that the trip of the heroes, in fact, does not mean anything. The situation could be interesting

Michael Winterbottom has been making films for a quarter of a century, but his finest hour has long passed. In recent years, the director has focused on subtle and not the most attractive to the mass audience films.
