As promised later today, I will send the results of the last poll to the admin team!
I started (before I hurt my knee) running about 40 years ago. Closer to 45 years ago. At that time, I ran with a small AM/FM radio. Later I ran with a Sony Walkman. I loved my Sony. I gave it toa friend of mine in Cincinnati who was starting as a runner. I should ask him if he still has it. The technology of running is fantastic now. I have an iPhone. It tracks my steps and provides entertainment. Oh yeah, and when it starts to rain, I can text someone in the family and get an umbrella. On Saturday we had to do that, we were out walking the Labs when it started to rain. Labs, as they will often point out to you, are waterproof.
Humans are not. Well, I am not waterproof. My wife, who walks typically the first half the walk with us, ran umbrellas to us, Funny thing, the torrential downpour we were expecting never came, so we carried the umbrellas home not needing them. But umbrellas like insurance, if you have it or have them, it is better than if you don’t. That got me thinking I haven’t talked about the applications I use on my iPhone to track steps. I have mentioned them in the comments but hadn’t reviewed them.
- Do you walk or run? Either way, Sweatcoins tracks your steps, and if you collect enough levels, you can change levels into things you need! Sweatcoins is a high application for those who like to walk or run!
- Runkeeper, I don’t run anymore, but Runkeepr is an excellent application. It tracks how far and how fast you go. Then it lays your walk out on a map!
- Audible – I like to listen to books as I watch!
- NOAA weather, it never hurts to know if that line of clouds includes rain while walking!
- Noise-canceling headphones – to listen to calls or to listen to books! I like the Jabra Evolve 75
I use all these apps when I walk every single day. I highly recommend all of them!
Take water and be careful when walking in the summer months!

I used to run a lot but after many injuries I had to slow down. Now I try to walk as often as I can, at least a few km’s a day until I’m running again.
my knee gave out 16 years ago, so it is walking every day for me!
I find walking a bit more therapeutic than running. Although I must admit I miss the Adrenalin drive.
i agree, I do enjoy the getting away and just being with my thoughts of walking. but there is something about running!
Well, I used to walk and keep track every day. I guess when they really started pushing the knee replacement I backed off. Probably a dumb move. I guess now that Bro is home and things have settled some I should get back on track.
i love and enjoy walking – but i am not threatened with knee replacement!

I use MyTracks to record distance, avg speed, elevation etc while hiking. Similar to Runkeeper I guess, except you don’t need to run 🙂 I’ve always been a walker.
i just like runkeeper it lays the walk out on a map. There are a few dogs we’ve learned to avoid on our walking path over the years.
Do you like Mytracks?
Is it easy to use?
It’s quite limited in functionality but it does everything I need it to. Lays out your hike on a map, shows average speed, climb/elevation, let’s you attach photos to points on the map. I’ve been using it for years. Oh it also calculates calories burned, but I’m not into the bio side of things. I carry a stick for the dogs 🙂
i have used a number of different ones over the years. You hit on the thing I’ve learned it only matters that we get the information we need when walking!
I never ran. My recreation is daily walking and occasional cycling. I always have my cell phone with me. I measure kilometers and steps with it.
what program do you use to measure your steps?
I already had the “Health” program loaded on my phone when I bought it.
good, the android and apple versions of that work very well. i track steps on runkeeper only because I want to know how fast this now is for walking. But I use health to know how many steps i took in a day
I agree. I have Android and the program works great. I count the steps for my records.
i used the android health for about a year. it was nice but I wanted away back to the iphone.
I’ve been using Android for a while now. I just got used to it.
i work for the phone company, so i have to know phones!
i have both an android and an iPhone in my pocket most days.
I understand now. You really need to know all the phones and all the technology associated with the phones.
that is my job – i love my job, because i get to play with technology!
Nowadays, we hear very rarely that anyone adores their work. 😊
that is very true. My dad always said (a quote he loved) if you love your work you never work a day in your life!
I always keep my phone with me, even in the yard and inside. Amazing how many steps I take without realizing.
i started with a fitbit about 10 years ago, i got to 10,000 steps a day average for the past 10 years. It is amazing!
I could n ever keep up with you and your walks but I do what I can.
we do what we can do, my wife makes me slow down!
