Photos Chain Challenge – Butcher's Bridge

The Butchers’ Bridge is a footbridge crossing the river Ljubljanica in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The bridge was opened in 2010 and an interesting thing about it is that it has glass walking belts at the sides.

It is also a place where lovers symbolically padlock their love. This practice is often criticized because the countless metal padlocks add weight to the bridge that might be dangerous. What do you think about it? Do you find it romantic or dangerous? Have you ever symbolically locked a padlock on a bridge?

    • Put this way, this is a beautiful symbolism. I am not a big fan of such public expression of love though. I suppose it’s mostly part of the travelling experience than an actual expression of love.

Part of a bridge in Paris already collapsed because of the love locks, if I remember correctly. Now in some cities there are separate grids just for padlocks so people don’t put them on bridges.

  1. Beautiful area. The padlocks are OK but there is so many of them that before too long, a short person or a child will not be able to see the limpid water unless being off the bridge. And as you mentioned the extra weight might warp the sides and eventually break them… Still the area around that bridge seems stunning and almost medieval looking…

    • Ljubljana is a beautiful city. I spent only a few hours there but it was enough to fall in love with it.
