Nature Tuesday – Epiphytes

I am always awestruck by epiphytes, perhaps because they are no so common here .  They are not parasite plants they just grow on the plant surfaces while taking their food from air, moisture and debris around the surface.  Ephiphytes produce some of the most exotic flowers .

Most of the orchids, airplants, Spanish moss and bromelaids belong to the epihytic plant category. Their clinging roots help the plant to stay stable on the surface on another tree or plant , while the Arial roots help absorb the nutrients required for the plants.

As we walked through a forest region there were many trees having hundreds of epiphytic plants growing on them. There were also many orchids growing in their natural habitat.
