Malaysia’s Independence Day, is celebrated every year on August 31. It’s today.
It is called Hari Merdeka in Malay language.
The Federation of Malaya (predecessor to Malaysia) gained independence from Britain in 1957. It’s 62 anniversary this year.

I just explained why there is Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day to my son. I think it’s kinda confusing to some people.
