Making writing sites better – we are a community don't give up!!!!

If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. We have a community here on this site. But the essential things to remember are well critical.

  1. People do what they can do. Many of us have lives that change course, and we are unable to post or comment. If you can’t be, it’s ok; we are there when and if you can post and say again.
  2. NO ONE SHOULD EVER TELL YOU THAT YOU SHOULD COMMENT ON THEIR POST. Ever. If someone does that ignore them! We do what we can do!

What is the problem? Right now, it is declining views and the long pole in the tent the fact that many authors don’t have their posts moderated quickly. That makes me very sad, honestly. Our site is two things, it is content, and it is community. The situation is tough. But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. So let’s work as a community to get to that light!

The first thing we can all do is read and comment as many posts as you have time to do in a day. The reason gives the author credit ( depends on the post type for the open). The comment provides them more virils. In fact, for those of you familiar, the new model of the site is closer to MyLot than it is to what this site used to be, It is now as much about the long conversation as anything!

The second thing is I know many of you are tired. I see comments and thoughts from so many of you every day. Don’t give up yet!

We have been on a long (4 year) slog. I know that it is frustrating to wait for 2, 3, or more days for a post to be published. I remember when I was first on this site, I had 16 articles in my pending area. I nearly gave up then. It was disheartening to know that my work was not making it on the site. That improved for a long time, and we will work hard to get that time waiting cut down!

We are a community! As a community, we have a chance to help each other! When the site had the publication issue 9many couldn’t publish for over a month), we all stood together, and we survived. The time to stand together is here again!

  2. “If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.”

I have never believed much in this addict, has it got any truth in it at all?

I would more say that there is no such thing as a problem in God’s world, as all serves all, that said, however, if you do not pull your weight, there is more weight for the others pulling to share around in their pulling.

This should not be a problem either though, as it is more the learning curves sharpening around corners for some, but for others, they are left behind until something, or another, pushes them back closer to the inner curve, once more again.

    • Who first calls something a problem?

If it is God, then we really do have a problem.

But would God, ever have a problem, that he couldn’t solve?

No, all problems, are not problems, but misunderstandings labeled as problems by someone underneath God’s fuller understanding that this too, is not really, a problem.

There is no such thing as a problem!

        • To me, not understanding is never a problem, because to not understand is a conundrum of essence that allows the building of bridges between understanding and not understanding.

The bridge itself is a problem, if we keep pulling it down, and not utilising, or seeing, its real purpose for its being there.

          • Not Knowing is a problem that causes massive issues in the world. It is not the advocating of political correctness rather the acceptance that it is important to see both sides.

You can’t “not understand” some of the issues around us. The time of ignorance and acceptance “status quo” has to be over.

There is no inner peace if all who walk this world are not at peace.

          • By the way, I notice that the “contact us” button at the bottom of the page is not working.

I send some emails to suport@virily.com instead.

            Including this one too:

            Dear Admin,

I have been writing here on Virily for a number of years now, and I would appreciate it if you made me a verified writer now.

This would help to lift some of the workload from you of moderating articles during these difficult times.

            thanks,

            Steve Marshall, aka “The Dunce”.

This would solve a lot of issues now if they simply made a lot of writers verified writers now.

          • First, that is a great message and I agree, your being verified would benefit the site.

However, I would say this –

there are a number of verified users who post 5 or more posts every day. They don’t contribute to the site or the community, they are here to post over and over.

What of them? I would like to see clearly defined rules for verified users. They used to have them when the site was first here.

    • There is a separation but yes I do believe the adage applies to the world around us.

Inaction causes more damage, bad behavior causes more damage

so yes, if you don’t work towards a positive solution you are part of the problem, especially online.

      • I still think that that sounds a bit harsh, as some people are neutral, and I wouldn’t say that they are part of the problem.

They just keep doing what they are doing, not adding to the problem, but not helping in its solution either.

The fence balancer has a role to play too, in my book, at least he can see on both sides of the fence at once, and this type of a person makes for a good umpire, or adjudicator too.

        • first all are welcome to an opinion.

Living right now in the US, i can honestly say that Neutral is part of the problem. The push to right requires a position.

The problems will not solve themselves, here on Virily or in the world.

so i strongly disagree. If you are not helping solve the problem, you are part of the problem.

          • People making up the world or being a part of this site are playing a role in helping the site by their very presence.

Just living/being sits on the side of the positive, so everyone is helping in a way, if they are alive.

Everything is connected. Let’s not let problems disconnect, but build new bridges for all to cross over past the problem.

        • Now you are push towards the answer of Ethics.

Not everyone on this site contributes in a way that benefits anyone other than themselves. Based on that, they actually cause the site to decline overall. I have had the pleasure of dealing with two of them personally. They do nothing in the end but destroy the site, and the hope within it.

sorry. There is much more going on than the ripples on the surface of the pond here.

          1
      • Thanks, doc.

You always lay your cards on the table. Perhaps, I am a bit naive and trusting, thinking that all of the writers here are here for the right reasons.

        You make some good points.

I like to philosophise, but practical active thought always beats armchair philosophy every time, I guess.

        • it is hard sometimes to see the line between action and inaction. The impact can be huge for both.

I am hoping they push your posts out, I love reading the “stories” you share they force to remember there is more.

          1
          • Thanks, for your encouragement, Doc.

I have three of my stories in pending now.

I took your advice, and kept writing, despite, not having the first one as yet moderated.

It’s nearly two weeks now, a long time, in anybody’s language, especially in a moderator’s language, as I assume they speak the same language as we do too, in the long run.

        • i wish I had an easy answer here but I do not.

I think the admin team is trying to keep the ship afloat. The power on this site as been given to the admins for too long.

we are the content, they don’t have squat without content.

          1
  3. What I don’t like about having a stash in pending is that when they finally do publish, they all publish at once. Then your views do not add up as they would for publishing one at a time.

That said, it is still much better to have the articles published!!! Still waiting here! This is Day #7 for me and one of the longer waits I have had.
