A magical thing happened in my yard yesterday. I saw the first Swallowtail of 2019. I had my camera of course, so I sat down and waited for him to come close to me. After several minutes of being completely still, he came closer and I was finally able to get a photo of him on my hand.
This process took about an hour. You have to move very slowly or they will fly away. I was determined to get a photo. And I did. A special moment that does not happen very often.
This proves that persistence and patience does eventually pay off. A moment I will not forget.

What an amazing moment you captured!
Thank you very much for your comment Ellie.
Thank you very much for your comment.
Such a beauty this Swallowtail is. Your persistence has resulted in this pretty picture. There is a life lesson here on the importance of perseverance.
Yes this is one of my favorite butteries. They are really big when their wings are spread. And I see them in different colors. The black is stunning. I agree about the lesson and this is another reason I enjoy nature so much.
Yup. You are blessed to be surrounded by mother Nature and it is a privilege that you have played a part in nurturing this nature.
Thank you, I appreciate your kind words always.
Ah wow, what a great photo. Your persistence did win and so did we! Thanks for sharing your “moment”. I have had many, not too many caught on camera.
Thank you Kim, I am so proud of it. I took it while being still with my left hand.
Beautiful capture they are amazing creatures
Thank you Pam, this was special.
Yes I have often held butterflies
Lucky you Pam, it is rare for me in my yard.
Such a wonderful moment is very difficult to catch in the picture.
Yes it was very magical indeed.
Stunning photo, love it. Butterflies are so cheering, aren’t they?
Thanks, I had a sense about this one, Dustin perhaps.
Beautiful moment captured in an ever lasting picture. Never delete that one. I do not remember anything like this ever happening to me except for one time when a butterfly (I believe it was a monarch) apparently landed on one of my shoulder without me seeing it and of course feeling. The person in front of me even though she was very quiet and was pointing to it did not know how to tell me without words what she saw. And she did not have a camera. But I will personally cherish every moment I have ever had with all my lovely dogs and cats and the occasional squirrels and deer.
This is my background on my compute right now. I will never delete it. A rare moment captured for sure. It was an ordeal to wait, then have the camera ready with one hand, and my other hand for the butterfly. But worth every second. Oh wow, so you had a moment as well. On your shoulder, gives me goosebumps. Someone visited you I believe. I love all animals as well.
Wonderful photo … for this you really have to have time and nerves
Thanks, it was really like magic. It takes a lot of patience for sure.
Wow! That’s a long wait!!
I remember trying to snap a penguin and then it turned to look at my camera … but I was too slow to click and it turned away! Missed the perfect moment but really felt magical with its cute eyes meeting mine!
That was a good memory for you. The weather was nice so I didn’t mind waiting on this beautiful butterfly, maybe from Dustin. 🙂
Yes, from Dustin!
he is sending you all the beautiful things!! 🙂
I do believe he is. 🙂
Maybe it was Dustin saying hello in a special way. One never knows!
I believe that with all of my heart. Thank you.
I have such moments in which I am waiting for a long time to take a picture. I waited a slave bird for an hour and a half.
I knew you would understand. And it is always worth the wait.
