Scientific name: Eriobotrya japonica
Japanese medlar (Eriobotrya japonica, Loquat) is a species of flowering plant that produces interesting small fruits and belongs to the family Rosaceae (Rosaceae).
The colors appear in the fall or early winter. They are 2 cm in diameter, white, with five petals, collected in inflorescences from 3 to 10 in number. They have a sweet, intoxicating aroma that can be felt from a distance.
The fruits ripen from spring to early summer. They are oval to pear-shaped, with rounded edges growing in groups. They are up to 5 cm long, with skin smooth and delicate, colored yellow or orange, sometimes with reddish hues. If the fruit is well ripe, the skin can be peeled off. Fruit is juicy, white, yellow or orange in color, sweet with a sour taste, depending on the Japanese medlar variety. The aroma of the fruit is a blend of peach, citrus and mango.
Each fruit contains up to 10 ovules that ripen into large, brown seeds.

You’re right here. Not everyone like me is lucky to have them fresh in the wood in the yard.
For people who love fruit it is great.
I have never seen these fruits before but they look good!
Depends on taste preferences. I do not like it.
Looks great! I don’t think I have tried it.
I brought seeds to Bulgaria. My son’s house in Plovdiv already has five small trees.
That’s awesome! The climate there is good for such more exotic plants.
I have a tree of it in my garden, we call it ‘nesperas’, it is delicious.
Yes here in Spain it is called ‘nesperas. There are five trees in the garden of the house where I work
Unfortunately, we do not have this fruit. I think it’s a fruit of my taste. Too bad I can’t try it.
I’m sorry I can’t send you.
I’ve eaten them before … they’re also make into syrup for throats…
I learned something useful about making throat syrup.
I’ve never seen this fruit before … maybe sold in markets
I brought in Bulgaria seeds, we already have five small trees. It’s similar to Mespilus
Never seen these before here.
It generally thrives in warm climates.
I thought at first that this was the egg fruit, but now I remember that I was served this in my cousins farm, very tasty and juicy. We get it in our supermarkets , but it is too pricey as it is not grown widely.
It is found here in almost every house. I’m not sure if it’s in stores and how much it costs.
These fruits are new to me.
Have you never seen them. If you have a yard and a place, buy a tree.
I do not want to plant any more fruit trees as I have many – almost 20 varieties.
Loquats! Now, I havent seen any of those around lately. We do have them, but are not grown commercially here. I love them, and this works perfectly for orange week!
The yards here are filled with this tree. I personally don’t like it very much because there are many seeds inside.
