. I am the sound of echos
the sound within canyon walls
bouncing off walls to
echo in tin ears
clutching
earbuds
and lacking a direction
just the lonely sound
of the quiet voice
does the echo leave us alone
or find us instead lonely?
in the quiet voice
we bounce off walls.
Seeking only silence
we seel corners and quiet
in the canyon
with the high walls
and the sound of silence.

Well, Doc, I must say, I love your poetry. I do agree, with Carol, I love the sound of silence. I do not hear much, that maybe why.
i wrote that poem back in 2000 when the twins my wife and I brought into the world, were little. the silence was golden literally, then!!!!
The sound of silence is my favorite noise on most days.

Why do people always associate librarians with telling people to be quiet? That’s a very old-fashioned attitude!

a library is a place of quiet reflection and in my school career the only place I was ever ssshed. The media, of course, has helped your cause considerably as well!
Granted – some libraries are certainly that. The university library where I finished my career had several different zones that allowed for various levels of noise, including complete silence, but also some where there were very few restrictions. This recognised the fact that different people have different needs, or needs that vary at different times.
The librarian of the English School I went to in Bangkok was the most wonderful person. I wrote letters to her until she passed away.
I read every science fiction book in the library, instead of forcing me to find something else to read she actually talked to me.
She recommended JRR Tolkien, I have been hooked ever since.
But she would also talk to me about the books every day in Libary time.
That is my memory of librarians!
