I am sure most of us buy fresh vegetables and fruits on regular basis. I am lucky to have flee markets close to my Indian residence which provide fresh produce at very reasonable price.
However, when I live in Australia I have to depend on Supermarkets for all my needs of fruits and vegetables which I find very costly (compared to India).
Lately, I have found an alternative in Sydney. I go to Flemington suburb which is about 30 km from my place and buy all what I need for 2 weeks at almost 50-60% cheaper.
My question is do you have any such wholesale market close to your home?

I often go to the supermarket for my regular shopping for fruit and vegetables but there are a few places I can go to like the fresh market vegetables you show and often they are much cheaper.
I would like to get better at shopping at wholefood markets and farmers markets in the future.
I am sure you will save lots of monies 🙂
there are so called farmers markets all over the place, but I’ve noticed a lot of them have very few farmers…
This one never has less than 2000 farmers or more at any weekends. Saturday is full day and Sunday only up to 2 PM. There are importers too as Sydney gets produce from 40-50 countries for its limited vegetable production.
I’ve been to some so-called farmers markets where less than a sixth of the stalls are produce. the rest are all deserts or bootleg DVDs or homemade jewelry…
This market has that section too where you can get anything that is used in a household at a very reasonable price. Mostly people from Lebanon and other Asian/Arabian countries do that kind of business here in this market. But I repeat that is entirely different section.
right, but the farmer’s market in Alhambra is pretty much all that section. and then there is a small area for farmers that isn’t easy to find
Yes we have one at our local state park.
We have at least 3 in my local area and the one shown here is in Flemington suburb of Sydney Metro.
There is a fruit and vegetable market every Friday. He is very visited.
Great, I am sure you take full advantage of this market.
I rarely buy fruits and vegetables, my husband plant our own.
We like some fruits and vegetables of our own too but we still have to go for many more.
Such vegetable markets selling at wholesale prices are not very common now in India also. You may need to travel a bit far to find one.
In North India we have a number of weekly crowded markets in each town, village and city.
In South India too, such markets operate in towns and villages. In large cities, there would be just one or two such major markets. Distance would be an issue for most residents. Anyways, I get your point. Such markets in the neighborhood would help both farmers and customers connect directly.
Yes, farmers and consumers both get right price and fresh things.
We have not only wholesale market but complete mandi …hahahaha
We too have many Mandis or Haats in all our areas. Lot of fun spending some time heckling with shopkeepers 🙂
Hahahaha happy to heard there is some similarities.
With us such markets, I am not dependent on discounts where prices are not exaggerated … I make a lot of vegetables in my garden … I buy the only southern fruit
We have 9-10 fruits trees along with couple of vegetables but we love going to this market for various items which we do not have in our own garden.
From fruit I have only 1 apple and 1 cherry … I buy other people in discounts that are not too expensive
That’s the right choice friend!
Fruits are my favorite items.
Sure but do you have or go to a wholesale market once in a while?
we had one (owned by a local farmer) but they closed it last year. Now we have to drive 20 minutes to get to the nearest one.
At least 2000 farmers bring their produce here on weekends and sell them at almost half the price compared to super markets.
That is awesome – lots and lots of things to choose from!
And I find some fruits or vegetables which I have never seen before. The items come from 80 different countries here!
we have a store near us called Wegman’s that is famous for that.
