Day Lilies are starting to bloom in my garden. They are like sunshine with the bright yellow color. This morning I looked closer and noticed a bug on one of the blooms. Then I saw the holes in the bloom. I have never had bugs beat the Day Lily blooms before.
Anyone have an idea what this bug is and how I should deal with him?

That’s a pity, I have seen some bugs in our roses too. I am not sure how to deal with them.
Yes it is Ellie but there is hope got the others. Good to see you.
I love the colors of this photo, stunning!
Thank you, but the bugs are eating the blooms. 🙁
They always remind me of sunshine.
There is no flower with out thorn similarly all beautiful flower has their enemy
Perhaps but I have never had bugs on the lilies.
I wish I could help you, I hate these beautiful blooms being destroyed by the bugs.
Thanks but all have not been destroyed yet, maybe there is hope.
Im not sure of the name of this insect but encourage more bird life…They eat insects.
I have tons of birds. Some birds will eat the blooms. Part of nature.
That is a bit sad, they eat our strawberries you can put netting on the blooms and leave birds some water on the lawn
Some birds are fine others are not. Also the wild rabbits around will eat veggies.
Yes, rabbits are a problem in New Zealand.
Unfortunately, I do not know the name of this insect. I have not seen the damaged flowers yet.
Thanks, and I am not sure this is the insect responsible for the damage.
I am hoping the rest of the buds will be safe.
All these bugs, so ugly and damaging, still are a part of nature. Just look, the bug feels like a king on the lily.
Yes they are all part of the process, I just want to be able see my blooms. I have many buds and hope there is not more damage. I am not killing the bugs, not yet, because I don’t know who did the damage yet.
I hope you find a solution to this problem, Carol. It’s a beautiful flower and must be protected from damage. Maybe a worm or some sort of insects cause the damage.
Thank you Sharon, this is the first year to see this damage. I hope I can find out before it’s too late. Maybe so.
I do not have liliy in the garden and I have no experience, so I can not help you, dear Carol
That is ok, I will figure it out. Thank you.
I have a flower on which the sparrows peck the leaves. I can not help with advice. I have never had this problem. How unfortunate about the beautiful lily.
Yes it is unfortunate. Never thought of maybe a bird being the problem.
I’ve no idea how to deal with bugs …
perhaps you can go to a florist or gardening shop and have them see this photo of the pest and they can give you advise?
The problem is I am not sure of this is what is causing the damage.
Time will tell. Thanks!
