This is another one of those passed down cookie recipes, I am not sure what grandmother it came from but it is a wonderful cookie and worth sharing.
I use exactly what I was taught to use but I know some will use butter in place of the called for shortening, I am not sure how they will taste or come out.
Lets get started, you`ll need :
1 cup of soft shortening
1 cup of white sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoon orange extract
1 1/2 cups of self rising flour
Preheat oven to 375°
In a large mixing bowl ad the shortening and the sugar, mix well. Add the egg and the orange extract and mix well.
Add the flour a little at a time mixing with each addition.
With a teaspoon drop small balls of dough onto a cookie sheet, about two inches apart. With damp finger slightly mash the dough ball flat.
Bake around eight minutes or till edges are slightly golden brown.
Remove from cookie sheet and to a cooling rack. store in a ziploc container.
Makes four dozen cookies.
For Christmas I often will use colored sugar crystals but the cookie is sweet enough without extra sugar added.

I now make my own extract, but that will be in my book. Its wonderful!
I am officially in my eating too many sweets mode. I have to stop thinking about cookies. Looks fantastic thought!
Cookies with milk or coffee?
I would have to say with coffee. But I only dip chocolate chip cookies into the coffee!
Hot cookies, I use milk, cold cookies? then its coffee.
I really don’t like sweet cookies I prefer salty ones.
You may call cookies biscuits there.
Do you cook your cookies on parchment paper?
waoo, I really loved cookies on parchment paper 🙂 🙂
Never! I always use the plain cookie sheet, no grease needed.
