I took this photo on Sunday morning in the grounds of Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin. This was the first time I had seen a nuthatch, so I only found out what it was after consulting a bird book after I got home.
Nuthatches are woodland birds that – not surprisingly – feed largely on nuts and acorns. This one was digging away at the soft wood of a rotten branch, fortunately oblivious to me only a few feet away.
Wonderful capture! I saw this bird for the first time last year and since then I see it quite often.
The small birds are always great to watch. This Nutach looks beautiful.
A great challenging catch. I know how hard it can be to get a good shot.
This is a Great think.
Did you hear them singing? They are very vocal, using an assortment of whistles and trills. We have these birds in Chindia Park.
But do they sing at this time of the year? Many birds only sing during the breeding season.
Nice capture and thanks for the info
Great Capture. Thanks for providing info about this bird.
Great capture!
Are you a bird watcher by hobby? You said it was the first time you had seen this type of bird (nuthatch).
I do enjoy birdwatching and also writing about them – I have a blog consisting of “bird” articles.
I had hoped that when visiting Germany I might see a few birds that I had not seen before, and that turned out to be the case. Nuthatches are found in the UK, but I have not been lucky enough to see one.
While walking round the same park I also saw two squirrels that were not the same as those found in most of the UK. It was an interesting morning!
my mother-in-law loved bird watching. She got so excited when she would see a new species!
