The Transfagarasan is known as Ceausescu Folly; he was last comunist president in Romania. The road passes over the Fagaras mountains in Transylvania at 2000 metres. It’s a road with endless curves and sheer drops. It starts near Pitesti and stretches 90 km to the crossroad between the DN1 and Sibiu, between the highest peaks in the country, Moldoveanu and Negoiu. The road was built in 1970 as a strategic military route.
The view is incredible. Between October and January is closed because of snow. The highest point is Lake Balea. With sun the view is amazing; last time was fog but it was beautiful. On the road you can see lake Vidraru, beautiful cottages, waterfalls; Balea is the biggest.
Here you can see Poenari Fortress, Statue of Prometeu, Vidraru viaduct, Vidraru Hydroelectric plant, Vidraru dam. Transfagarasan is an amazing place with amazing air and landscape.
