Stamen = Filament & Anther

The long, slender tendrils protruding from the flowers below are known as stamen. The stamen are comprised of the filament and the anther. The filament is the stalk that helps the pollen producing anthers reach up to the sky where pollinators will come in contact with them. Hopefully, the pollinators will then transport the pollen from flower to flower as they fly about.

As autumn takes hold here in Colorado, I won’t be seeing flowers like this outside for some time. I’ll be awaiting their arrival come next Spring. Until then, I’ll return to these pictures when I’m longing for summer.
