The term “staying on a sinking ship” that has been used for around one hundred years refers to the sinking of the Titanic. The Titanic was supposed to be an indestructible ship, but sank when it hit a glacier.
The analogy works here in the case of Monsanto in regards to the weed killer RoundUp. Although 30 countries are looking to phase out any products with glyphosate, a chemical that has been shown to cause cancer, Monsanto still looks to hold their ground and defend their carcinogenic products. Basically, Bayer should not have bought Monsanto last year. Now, Bayer is scrambling to find an alternative to glyphosate in their labs while paying out billions of dollars in litigation.
This whole situation is very sad. I hope they lose every case.
The way that it is going, they will lose every case due to them hiding the truth about their products.
Many articles about Monsanto. They should be looking over their shoulders now.
No, they should have been looking at what they are putting in their products.
Great article , Thank you for sharing
Thank you for checking this article out so that you will not use RoundUp in the future.
Thank you. This is a perfect article about Roundup. Monsanto and its parent company are currently involved in more than 13000 lawsuits involving Roundup. Time to shutter that business. Of course, Monsanto can’t say that publically they would end up losing all those lawsuits.
Thank you and you are welcome. They need to settle a bunch of these lawsuits because the punitive damages have been rather high against Monsanto.
The problem is punitive damages are capped in most countries. What they are waiting for (my opinion here) is a judge to force most of them into a class action lawsuit.
They would then settle with a Roundup fund. There are a number of legal precedents that work with that.
That is true. I had heard that they are now capping punitive damages to 9x the amount of the compensation, but they will still be paying plenty of money – here’s the link – https://www.inquirer.com/news/nation-world/roundup-weed-killer-lawsuit-80-million-damage-reconsider-federal-judge-20190703.html
Like the asbestos companies, Bayer will declare bankruptcy that will cap the damages at 3 times.
Nice and interesting post, thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Double H, for checking this post out.
Interesting article. Anything that causes cancer should not be used
Anything used in excess could cause problems. The issue with Monsanto is that they did not warn people about RoundUp when they knew that it caused cancer.
knowingly selling carcinogens isn’t their only crime, it may not even be their worst…
That is so true, but lawyers have found the silver bullet in that Monsanto never labelled RoundUp with any sort of warnings. This will move quick with more litigation on the way.
Yes, and Monsanto continues to deny any wrongdoing! Now we just have to trust the justice system to do their job. They should be buried under precedent and so long as it isn’t overturned then they will eventually run out of appeals…
