Sesame seed bars are made in many countries and in various cuisines, with simple variations. This stands to reason since sesame seeds have a good flavor and are healthy. This recipe is quite simple and easy to make, too.
Sesame seeds have been used for thousands of years, often in breads and crackers, or as semi-confections like this recipe. The seeds are good for a fast boost of energy and they are high in B vitamins. They are also very high in iron, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, and zinc.
This recipe also uses fig jam and honey, both of which are well known for their health benefits.
Sesame seed bar ingredients:
- 3/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup fig jam
Sesame seed bar instructions:
1. Heat the sesame seeds, honey, and fig jam in a small pan over low heat. Stir often, to prevent the sugar from burning, but heat until the mixture is bubbly.
2. Put parchment paper or waxed paper on a cookie sheet or loaf pans and oil the parchment paper/waxed paper. (This makes it easier to remove the finished bars.)
3. Pour the mixture onto the parchment paper/waxed paper. The mixture should be about an eighth of an inch thick.
4. Put parchment paper or waxed paper over the sesame mixture and use the back of a spoon to smooth it out evenly.
5. Bake at 400 F for 10 minutes, flip the sesame mixture over and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
6. Remove from heat and allow the sesame mix to cool enough that you can work with it, then cut it into 1 -inch squares, leaving the parchment paper on. Once they are totally cooled, the bars can be stacked and stored.
For variations, you can add a half cup of coconut or some chopped nuts. The sesame seed bars taste great even without the additions, however.
When you find yourself low on energy, one or two of these bars should do a great job of energizing you. They are even gluten-free.

These really are, Andrew. I don’t make them often because of the price of sesame seeds, but I enjoy this snack.
We used to get a similar thing that was very small and wrapped individually like candies as an alternative to candy. They are very delicious – it is great to directions on making them!
Cheers!
I meant to type “it is great to have directions…” I shared this to my FB feed as I know many of my friends will be glad to have this recipe.
