“We all eat, and it would be a sad waste of opportunity to eat badly.” -Anna Thomas
Hello, food lovers! This is a post that will make your mouth water and make you go straight in the kitchen and start preparing one of these famous and delicious dishes from all around the world. One of the most significant symbols of every country or region, besides the language and culture, is the national cuisine. The tradition of cooking, the recipes that are shared through generations in the family and the typical ingredients that are used for every traditional dish, are something that every country is proud of. I have made a personal list of most delicious dishes that are not as everyday as the Italian pizza and American burger (we all know that they are tasty!), but still very popular around the world as well as traditional in the countries of origin.
You don’t need to travel in order to try these yummy recipes, just inspire yourself by reading this and start cooking! International dinner party, why not! Bring the world in your kitchen and your family and friends will be delighted! Bon Appétit !
P.S. This list does not offer dishes for vegans/ vegetarians, so feel free to comment and recommend vegetarian dishes for a next post!
Shepherd’s Pie, England
This famous British recipe is actually a meat pie with a mashed potato crust. It is also known as Cottage Pie, while the term Shepherd's Pie is usually used when the meat is lamb. The vegetarian version is called Shepherdess Pie, where instead of meat, the filling is made of onions, carrots, garlic, celery and other vegetables by choice.
Eggs Benedict, New York
The most famous brunch meal consists of two halves of an English muffin topped with crispy bacon/ ham, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Reportedly, the recipe was invented by a Wall Street broker, Lemuel Benedict, who came to the Waldorf Hotel in New York with a hangover from the long night asking for eggs, buttered toast, bacon and little sauce on top of this. Since this happened in 1894, it looks like that NewYorkers and the rest of the world cures hangovers with Benedict for brunch for more than a century.
Tandoori Chicken, India
Chicken marinated in masalas, oil and curd, grilled and served with onion rings and a green chutney. This is a short recipe of one of the most popular dishes in India. It was invented by a Punjabi Hindu in 1947. Another version of the Tandoori Chicken - the Chicken Tikka Masala is also as popular in Europe.
Lahmacun, Turkey
Fajitas, Mexico
One just can not resist Mexican food. Spicy, rich flavors and multicolored dishes are typical for this cuisine. Fajitas is one of my favorite dishes ever. Chopped small pieces of meat (your choice: chicken, pork, minced meat, or mixed), vegetables: tomato, lettuce, onion, cucumber; Mexican salsa sauce or guacamole and voila! Fajitas are served. Just do not forget, that all of the ingredients are served in front of the guest, so they can decide what they will "roll" in their fajita.
Falafel, Middle East
The traditional Middle Eastern dish, falafel, is a deep-fried ball, doughnut or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both. Its origins go as far as Ancient Egypt, Alexandria, from where it was distributed all around the world by the sailors. Falafel can be served solely, or in a pita sandwich with vegetables and seasoned with herbs.
Foie Gras, France
Moules-frites, Belgium
Paella, Valencia (Spain)
If you like seafood, rice and meat, and you couldn't thought that all of this can be a main course, think again. The savory Andalusian traditional paella dish evolved in different varieties: seafood paella, meat paella, vegetables paella, mixed paella, etc. All of the varieties are delicious, so make sure to try them all.
Sushi, Japan
Without the need for further explanation, sushi is one of the most popular dishes all around the world. Originated from Japan, it became highly popular everywhere, especially in America. While there are some critics that say that the sushi culture is very different in Japan and all around the world, still, we are all amazed by the raw fish and rice combo.
