@lacho59 has posted a new challenge which I have decided to answer with an old shutterbug’s trick called Depth of Field. Basically this is restricting the focal area to allow the foreground and background to slide out of focus.
#1 original recipe
Here is the original version, which you might remember from my earlier post Sakura Kick – WIP
#2 giclee print
So I've painted her in a flat, cel shaded fashion but then used depth of field to indicate volume, so that was interesting
#3 rough sketch
Just a quick and dirty sketch to capture the pose. If you ever saw the cartoon Hong Kong Fooey, you'll recognize that form. Actually, that's a whirlwind kick but since the cherry blossoms magically appear when she uses it, we call it the Sakura Kick
#4 alternate version
This one just wasn't working out to my satisfaction, but it did point me in the right direction to the final
#5 omake
I've used those cherry petals before, and it occurred to me that I haven't told you that I can do that with anything. I could use playing cards or feathers, whatever I want. Here I've done sapphires, just to be sassy
Here she looks like the waitress that carded my friends if you read my “Skinny Dippin’, Mescalin Trippin’, Watching A Baby Day Be Born”
Still haven’t tried Mescalin, and have yet to see a baby be born…
That was a “Baby day”, or a sunrise, but I’ve seen both, they’re both pretty terrific.
Baby day… okay, I’m going to chalk that up to lack of sleep. I watched the sunrise this morning and most mornings. I hate it…
Yeah, sorry it took so long but I’ve been busy as you can see
I try to finish up everything I start, but that isn’t always feasible
