An old phrase for the New Year uttered all around the English speaking world on New Year’s Eve.
The flower is a flower that was given to my wife as a gift. So far, we haven’t killed it. It bloomed the day before Christmas!
To old acquaintance!

This is my favorite version of the song. I was for many years a huge Fogelfollower – he has many songs but this one fits best for the upcoming New Year Holiday.
The song is both happy and sad. It is happy that both of the people in the song have moved on. It is sad because while they moved on from what was once love, there is still the reality of what was lost.
The snow turns into rain.
One thing this is not is a version of Auld Lang Syne! A bastardised rendition of the tune is tacked on at the end, which is as much as can be said for it!
the song is about the feelings of the original Auld Lang Syne, the old acquaintance long forgot but suddenly right there in front of you.
But that is not the meaning of the original poem! Auld Lang Syne is sung to remind the singers not to forget the past but remember the good times they had and do everything they can to preserve the memories, however far apart they might be.
Memories are attached often to people, the ending of a personal relationship sometimes causes us to forget the feelings, the connection until we see that person again.
They were once lovers, and are now strangers.
Yes, this song is sung even here on New Year’s Eve.
it is truly a wonderful song. I love Dan Fogelberg’s lyrics. He has a great ability to pull things together in the words and the music!
That is a very beautiful flower. I know this song and parts of it bring memories. The song was popular when I was seeing someone at university and he wanted me to return on a New Year’s Eve after breaking up but I never did. However, today we have caught up and are keeping in touch by email
you lived the song! although not in a grocery store, in email!!!
The flower is really beautiful, dear friend … but I don’t know the song
it was a big song 20 years ago
I’m not sure if it came to the European market
honestly i don’t know, i am never sure what songs leave the US…
Only great performers and big hits … even European performers find it very difficult to conquer the US market … it only succeeds big ones
He was really big in the US.
He wrote the song American Pie. (the song about Buddy Holly) that one was number 1 for a few weeks.
Beautiful music and a gorgeous flower! I thought it was artificial at first, it’s so perfect!
it is currently the only living plant in our house fingers crossed!
Several years back I had a friend and we were just making friendly conversation over lunch. She mentioned she had gone shopping and bought some music albums. I asked what did she say and she started rattling off names of people I have never heard. One of the names was Dan Fogelberg. I’m she mentioned his name. I might have lived my entire life never knowing a really good artist. LOL.
he has a gift for songs and lyrics!
Beautiful flower. Mine should open soon too, I’ll show it if I can
i hope we can keep it alive, it is really beautiful!!!!
The lyrics are very intricate. This kind of depth in lyrics is missing from mainstream music.
he was main stream for a very short time. but you are right it is an oft missing piece of songs.
This is certainly timely. Well done.
it is my favorite version of the song!!!
Actually sometimes also because as people we constantly change and therefore it is likely we can no longer find connection or common ground with them. Other times, the distance and time difference just widen the gap ??♀️
that is another way to lose that – connections are critical!
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne? ?
Sometimes we do forget people in the process as we move along life. It is not a bad thing, I guess. It is just is.
some have to be forgotten, the pain is far to great. Others of course, we forget or shuttle off to a part of the brain where things we keep but don’t recall are kept.
those are the sad ones.
