Love ItLove It

I want to tell you about an embarrassing thing that has happened to me in hope it might help others.

Embarrassed you might ask? Well, yes. I have always heard that you can get mites, head lice, scabies, and bedbugs if you were an unclean person. That people that keep the house, yard and themselves clean would never have to worry about them.

WRONG.

My story:

Three weeks ago, I had to go to the Emergency room at the local hospital due to complications with a tooth extraction. The covid virus was just making its first appearances here in the state, but I had to go.

Everything went fine, they fixed me up, and sent me to my pharmacy to pick up a prescription of antibiotics. I went to bed feeling almost 100%.

Then I woke up the next morning, with a rash on my hands, and my feet. Even the palms and soles were bumpy and super itchy, especially in between my fingers. Odd, never had a problem with rashes. I don’t even get poison oak or ivy, not allergic to anything either. In fact, I don’t believe I have ever even had a rash. I think okay, well no worries. A few bumps. I treated it with calamine lotion.

Jump ahead to a few days later, its spreading on my arms.

By the weeks end my arms were covered. (shown below)

Corona Virus update, the governor of CA has issued a stay at home order.

I don’t want to go to the doctor since I have diabetes and asthma  and are considered immune deficient and high risk. I also am the last person to go to the doctor for anything. Yes, I am that stubborn.

Another week goes by, its getting so bad and itchy, its on my neck, and back around my panty line..darn near everywhere. So, I send the pictures to a nurse friend of mine in AZ, she gets back and says you have to go to the doctor, even at a risk of catching the virus.

Yesterday, I wake up and it is so bad, I can’t concentrate. Never had an itch this bad. So, I call the doctor. This automated thing came on talking about the virus. For ten minutes you listen to all these things you probably should already know. Then the operator for the doctor’s office answers.

She explained that the offices are now closed. They have several in the area. That a call will be made to you setting up a telephone doctor’s appointment.

They called, and made the appointment for one hour later, in which time I had to take the pictures below and send them in. They reviewed them and called me back. I answered something like 15 questions and hes said, we believe you have scabies. We have ordered two medicines for you, but Walmart is the only pharmacy that is open now. Fine, it’s close to the house even.

My son drives over and picks it up for me. It is a lotion I applied after a hot shower from my neck to the soles of my feet. It had a 5% permethrin pesticide, in a light lotion.

Anyway, there is an outbreak of yes, not only covid019 but also scabies, here in the USA. Anyone can get them.

So stay safe out there, and stay at home.

#1 Next pictures are graphic, they are the rash on my arms.

Up my legs...

#2

Hard to see through the wrinkles but there are 100's of bumps.

#3 NOtice

Notice the bumps seem to line up in lines? These are the mite eggs that are layed under the skin.

#4 So, this is what scabies look like after you have been scratching.

Scabies is an itchy skin condition caused by a tiny burrowing mite called Sarcoptes scabiei. Intense itching occurs in the area where the mite burrows. The urge to scratch may be especially strong at night. So of course I never woke up as I was scratching. Just waking up to this.

So this is the first day after my treatment.

I feel great, there is no itching what so ever! The doc also prescribed some Prednisone. 🙂

    • And diabetic, yes I have been inside, I don’t even go to the store or for walks outside. My sons have been doing all the shopping. Luckily I have a yard with lots of flowers and plants to play in. lol Stay safe as well.

    • Thank you Ellie, I am well completely now. Just healing now. No itch at all though. This virus is scary knowing the incubation time being two weeks, people can infect so many in that time before even the first symptom arrives, and the fact that the US is playing it down is also very worrisome. Hopefully all doctor’s offices will start doing the telephone visit instead of in person. I know a lot of people are holding off healthcare. Stay safe.

    • That was the third question the doctor’s office asked me. Have you been to Oceanside Hospital in the last three weeks? I said, well yes. And to think of it the next day is when I came down with this. He then made the diagnosis. Thank you, take care of you too!

  1. I wish you a speedy recovery. I recovered my allergy by wearing rubber gloves. They are worn here. Now I first roll a bandage and then put on a large number of gloves. Of course I have an ointment that soothes the allergies.

    • Thank you Elenka. Oh no, that’s terrible. Hopefully you can the other kind soon? Does the bandage keep it from getting bad? I was a flower designer and became allergic to alstromeria lily, it was so bad it took off my fingerprints for a few months. I eventually had to quit, since that flower is used in ever flower shop. Stay safe, and take care of yourself too.
