Around the 1st week of June is New Zealand’s Queen’s birthday Weekend. So This Monday it is a National holiday in honour of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd.
Actually her real birthday I believe is in April 21st, but it is kept in June because that is the birthday of King George 5th.
Being so far away from England all the Royal Monarchy are is figure heads, but an impartial figure to offer advice and promotions for people who benefit others in some way. I respect the Royal family, they have a very difficult job to do…..but I am not a fanatic fan..
To most who live here, Queen’s Birthday Weekend, it is just another day off for a holiday in the Weekend. However, when everyone goes away on holiday is is a slow crawl to their holiday destinations and a slow crawl back..
So today we heard a list of people’s names in New Zealand, who had been given knighthoods or made Dames….
My drawing in Pen & Ink , here is of the legendary King Arthur, at least he lived in Britain….
New Zealand is part of the British Empire, as is Australia and Canada. Queen Elizabeth the second of England, is a figure head not ruler.
Thanks for your kind comment Tasartcraft.
The picture is fantastic … and are you celebrating the Queen’s birthday? It’s left in your blood … if it’s not another day off
Well, the Queen actually has her birthday on April 21st.. they celebrate Queens birthday publicly because it was King George the 5th’s birthday.
However, truthfully the majority of people in New Zealand just have a day off while it does not make any difference to me.
Thanks so much Lado
Thanks for the kind and detailed explanation, dear friend …. I knew that you were somehow connected to the English, but knew how and why … ultimately also drive on the left
That is true Lado, also for some of us like me, my ancestors were from England or Ireland or Scotland. My ancestors were those and some from Europe .
Thanks for the friendly explanation, my dear friend
Great detailed sketch and enjoy the holiday.
Thanks Carol, glad you like the sketch
Beautiful drawing. I do not understand something. Does New Zealand belong to the United Kingdom? Maybe the question is a bit “stupid” ?
Hi Vidocka! No worries, New Zealand has been part of the British empire and in some ways belongs to the United Kingdom.
However, New Zealand is a free and independent country, and the Queen od England is only a figure head.
As a figure head, it is a Queen with no real power, just someone who can give knighthoods and make people Dames.
Actually the New Zealand Government choose the people to be made knights or Dames, not the Queen.
It is not a stupid question at all..We have normal elections and run the country with New Zealand law…The United Kingdom don’t own New Zealand but they once did.
I do not know much about the royal families …
but the drawing is great!
I never read the magazines about royalty, and don’t know much about them either.
Most of all, I am impressed with his torso and gown! Wonderful
Have a fun holiday. The drawing is amazing!
Thanks Doc, glad you like it
