Dogs Earn a New Status as Pets

Dogs, a delicacy in China have now earned a new status in the country. They were listed as belonging to livestock but due to the emergence of coronavirus, they are now classified as pets. It is believed an animal in the wet market in Wuhan town acted as an intermediary host of the novel coronavirus.

It is estimated over 10 million dogs are slaughtered annually in China.

“As far as dogs are concerned, along with the progress of human civilisation and the public concern and love for animal protection, dogs have been specialised to become companion animals, and internationally are not considered to be livestock, and they will not be regulated as livestock in China,” the ministry said in a statement. 1. I knew this went on and goes on in any Oriental country. In those countries, from speaking to Mum (born in China and european) Life in the Orient is extremely cheap.

I don’t judge these people because it is all about poverty and survival of the fitness. It is survival.

Sad, unfortunately and hard but true.
