When emptying my compost in it’s place in the garden , this was on the ground.
This is a Choko. To cook, just peel it, its skin is rough. Cut it up and boil it with other vegetables.
The Choko grows on a vine and some think the plant is a pest, but to me it is a blessing.
Never seen or heard about this plant. Amazing how many things exist in this world ?.
Yes, I am finding out about many plants in this world. Thanks Gogata.
Me too. Actually, since I joined Virily I learned many new things and I love it ?.
It grows in a Vine, where I live it is easy to grow.
Ha, in my country is called jipang or siam pumpkin
Thanks so much Albert, that is very interesting.
Very interesting. I see it for the first time.
Thanks Vidocka, yes, it is unusual.
It looks like pear. What is the taste? What can we do with it?
It is a vegetable, the taste is quite bland, it is like a potato. You need to peel it, the vegetable has green flesh then boil it, the same time as a potato. Serve with a knob of butter or garlic butter and season with salt or pepper or both
Sounds and looks interesting. Does it have many health benefits from eating it?
For a start, it has no unhealthy fats, it is usually recommended for controlling cholesterol levels and promoting healthy weight. It is a source of healthy fibre, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium , vitamin C and Cholline.
It looks interesting fruit … it’s an unknown fruit to me
It is a vegetable Lado. I peel it and boil it and eat it as a boiled potato. With a knob of butter or margarine or garlic margarine on it with other vegetables.
Oh, very interesting and thanks for the kind explanation, dear Pamela
Interesting name for a different looking plant that is a vegetable or a fruit? But if you cook it with garlic butter I assume that it is a plant closely related to vegetables. There are so many different veggies and fruits here on Virily I cannot keep track of them all…
The Choko is a vegetable, a bit like a potato. I boil it in water and add a little garlic butter afterwards, it is bland.
Sounds interesting and looks the same. Enjoy!
Thanks so much Carol
i have never seen one before. It kinda looks like a chayote? Have you ever had one?
I don’t know what a chayote is. No never had one have you?
After looking it up on the internet, yes it is a Chayote.
Hmm… I’m not too sure what it is … is it sweet or sour…?
The Choko is not sweet but bland. Goes nicely with a little garlic butter on it.
I was just about to ask what it tasted like
By itself it is quite bland, so a little garlic butter makes it nice. Its green with smoother texture than a potato.
Oh, it does sounds like it’ll be tasty 🙂
