I almost walked out this morning and forgot my smart phone which I normally use as GPS during my workouts. With that being said, I literally just bidded and won a Garmin 910XT GPS watch off of eBay yesterday on that note. And yes, I anticipate its arrival because it gives me another mileage tracker in prep for Detroit Marathon.

Anyway, I wanted to get a good run in to coincide with the 28 miles that I cycled yesterday in prep for the marathon in a few months, so I drove up to my old neighborhood in Edgewater where the Lakefront trail starts. In the past, I have logged many miles starting at Kathy Osterman Beach running towards downtown Chicago and back.
Going into this run my mind played tricks on me telling me that I should go shorter as a slight pain tricked down my lower left leg urging me that I should keep it short of my goal which was 10 miles.
It wasn’t until the 3.5 mile mark where I decided that I would go ahead and power through any signals telling me to go shorter. Even as a seasoned runner I do continuously tell myself to ignore the signals and power through them because I know they are only temporary.
Ending this run I felt relieved and eager to finish off the rest of my day. I would imagine that the slight pain in my lower left leg came from cycling 28 miles yesterday, which I will remember to exclude next weekend as I up my run mileage.
I followed this run up with a tour of my old neighborhood, coffee at 7-Eleven, and church at People Church – Ukrainian Village.

Good for you and your exercise plan and goals!
Of course. I have ran 19 of them, and always have had game plans
Sounds like you have a sound plan. Good luck.
Of course I do. I have ran 19 of them, and always have had game plans
Just reading that made my legs hurt! I see people like you out there when I hike. I cuss them! Grins. Joking of course. Way to go. Ah to be in that kind of shape must be an awesome feeling. I hope you do well in the marathon. Where is this one at?
Lol. Those trail runners are like mountain goats, out there putting in long miles & hours on the trails. Hell, that is where the therapy of running comes to play being out there with nature. This one is located in Detroit : ) Excited for my first ever trip to Detroit.
OH boy, great analogy. Mountain goats….yup.
Detroit breakdown, motor city shake down!! You should listen to that as you run..
J. Geils Band.
I’ll add it to my playlist for my build-up. I always have certain songs that tend to remind me of the training and the run. Makes me smile thinking of the old ones I did years back when I hear a song on the radio.
Oh that is so cool. 🙂
That is an incredible – way to go! The Garmin watch (I had one previously) is a good addition to your tool belt for running!
Technology, of course you had it.
I had a Sunnuto GPS watch as well. 🙂
I have had many of the versions: the 205,305,310, 405, and now the 910xt.
I use my apple watch now for everything. 🙂
I was about to purchase the Tom Tom, but encountered this one for a pretty decent price. I cannot wait to finish up my training runs with it.
the Tom Tom is really big in Europe. both GPS and Watch!
I would love to try Tom Tom brand at some point. Prior to getting my current Garmin 910xt, I tried to get one by bidding on eBay, but no luck. Maybe once my 910xt breaks I will search again.
I remember the first GPS watch – the Sunnto, I loved that watch!
I believe I saw that one while searching on eBay
It was really good, 10 years ago. I haven’t looked at their newer stuff.
Amazingly some of the older ones are still used a lot like the 205, 305, and 310xt. I’am enjoying training with my 910xt. I’ll speak of it in my next run writing which will be published Monday.
