Mainau – a Dream Island in the Heart of Europe

For the first post published here on Virily I have decided to go back down memory lane to an enchanting place I visited exactly 10 years ago, in August 2007. This extraordinary site is an island called Mainau which lies in the proximity of the German town of Konstanz, close to the border with Switzerland.

I went there on a warm Saturday afternoon and I spent a few hours full of delight and relaxation in a stunningly beautiful landscape dominated by an incredible variety of flowers which populate the parks and garden around the Castle of the Teutonic Order, the main building of the island.

It’s been a decade since my visit to Mainau, but this place is still fresh in my mind and I’m convinced it looks at least as good as it did in 2007, because it’s obviously well managed by its owners who are interested in making it even more attractive for tourists. In addition to the thousand of flowers which form a symphony of colors, there were several other remarkable sights which turned my short stay at Mainau  into an unforgettable experience: a greenhouse with tropical plants, some giant trees which made me feel really small and the beautiful playgrounds for children and the statues which adorn this lovely island. Mainau is a place where I would always return with great pleasure, and the photos below speak for themselves about its beauty.
