Scientific name: Eriobotrya japonica
Japanese medlar (Eriobotrya japonica, Loquat) is a species of flowering plant that produces interesting small fruits and belongs to the family Rosaceae (Rosaceae).
The colors appear in the fall or early winter. They are 2 cm in diameter, white, with five petals, collected in inflorescences from 3 to 10 in number. They have a sweet, intoxicating aroma that can be felt from a distance.
The fruits ripen from spring to early summer. They are oval to pear-shaped, with rounded edges growing in groups. They are up to 5 cm long, with skin smooth and delicate, colored yellow or orange, sometimes with reddish hues. If the fruit is well ripe, the skin can be peeled off. Fruit is juicy, white, yellow or orange in color, sweet with a sour taste, depending on the Japanese medlar variety. The aroma of the fruit is a blend of peach, citrus and mango.
Each fruit contains up to 10 ovules that ripen into large, brown seeds.

Loquats! Now, I havent seen any of those around lately. We do have them, but are not grown commercially here. I love them, and this works perfectly for orange week!
The yards here are filled with this tree. I personally don’t like it very much because there are many seeds inside.
