Chances are you have seen a silver spotted skipper. With their brown wings and quick movement, they might not be the first butterflies you’d stop to observe.
Take a closer look, and you’ll notice bands of orange on the forewings, and a silvery patch in the center of the hindwings.
The silver spotted skipper is the largest skipper in North America, with a wingspan of 2 – 3 inches. Silver-spotted skippers have enormous eyes that appear to bulge out from the head.
Sharing this photo from my summer garden last year. He was enjoying my butterfly bush in Dustin’s garden.

The butterfly is really beautiful. I think even in that color it would meet the challenge.
A very lovely butterfly and unusual looking
That’s such a beautiful photo, Carol. I love butterflies and looking forward to seeing them again when summer arrives.
Thank you for sharing Carol.

Wow that is so cool Bradley. Thank you so much for the link. I needed to hear that butterflies are thriving. This particular butterfly reminds me of one we see her, called a sulphur butterfly. I have written about it.

I like to look at your butterfly pictures
Thanks, this is one that stood out with his silver spot.
Great shot, his huge eyes do bulge out.
Yes he is different and I love his markings.
Also, the silver spot on his wings are the first thing I notice in the garden. Very bright.
Wow!! Nice shot!!
Love all the details of his head!!
We haven’t have butterfly visit in awhile …
let’s hope they do when the plants start to bloom!!
He is different and that silver spot shines and that is what caught my eye. We will have them back in a few weeks.
i have only seen these in butterfly “exhibits” at the national zoo. I’ve never seen one in the wild!
These were in Dustin’s garden which made them extra special.
i am so jelly!!!!!
i would love to see one out and about!
Awesome. You just do great things everywhere you go.
How kind of you to say!

It’s a simple truth, and that makes it very easy to say.
SO kind. And I see the poll questions disappeared. Oh well!
Great picture, dear Carol
Thank you very much my friend.
Such a wonderful capture!
Thanks, I hope to see them again soon in the garden.
