Misai kucing meaning cat’s whiskers in Malay (Orthosiphon stamineus) is a herb that is grown for both decorative purposes as well as medicinal. It is a short plant (up to about one meter in height) with white-purple flowers and its filaments resemble cat’s whiskers!
Malay traditional medicine uses it as a diuretic to help with the treatment of gout, kidney stones and high blood pressure. It is also reputed to help with gallbladder problems, urinary tract infections, rheumatism, circulatory disorders, diabetes and a host of other ailments with its anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties.
Good medicinal plant !
